MONOLOGUE: The Monologue assignment is an acted out, memorized 3-6 minute speech from a play written
1900 to the present.  It will be assigned the first day of class.  It will not be due until the end of the first marking period.  This is the most important grade in this class and will be worth the most points.  Failure to perform a
monologue will greatly affect the student’s overall grade.   Students who do not complete the monologue
assignment may be given a written final rather than a performance-based final.  Note: Both the performance and
the paperwork aspects of this assignment must be completed to receive any credit.

Monologue Requirements

1) 3-6 minutes in length
2) 20th or 21st Century (1900's and up)
3) Same Gender
4) Color Blind Casting rules apply
5) Not from the play The Glass Menagerie
6) The monologue must be from a previously published full length or one-act play.
7) You must read the entire play
8) A Typed/Double spaced copy of your Monologue will be due at the end of Unit Three.

DRAMA LAB INFORMATION - in detail

  • As mentioned in the course description, participation in school production is required for this class.  Lab hours are worth a minimum of 150 points.  The reason for requiring Lab Hours is to provide every student with an opportunity to be a part of a school production and it is a basic part of Drama.

  • You are required to work 6 hours for full credit.  You will receive partial credit for less than the minimum requirement at a rate of 25 points per completed hour.  Credit will not be given for anything less than a complete hour.  Partial hours can be combined.

  • T LEAST HALF OF YOUR HOURS MUST COME FROM THE MAJOR PRODUCTION.  After the production is over there is no guarantee that any hours will be available.  To guarantee that you receive your hours it is highly recommended that you get all of them before the end of the major production.  After the production is complete, hours will consist mainly of cleaning up the theatre department area.

  • If you earn more than SIX hours, bonus points will be awarded at a rate of 10 points per hour.  (50 points maximum)

  • Note: You will get an hour if you audition and do not make the cast list.  However, if you are on the cast list and you quit the show, you cannot get back the hour retroactively.

  • Some jobs, which may be available for a show, might include:

FULL TIME
 ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
 ASSISTANT STAGE MANAGER

NOTES: If you choose to earn your hours through a specific production position, (i.e., actor, stage crew, stage manager, etc.) you will be credited for your hours after the conclusion of your duties.  You will not receive hours for rehearsals, which are considered preparation for the performance.  You will only receive them for completing the production, which is considered the final product.  Failure to complete your duties or removal from your position before the completion of your task will result in a loss of all hours, which have been earned through that position.  You will then have to gain your hours in a different manner.  [Contracts are required for any specific production position.]

Full Time indicates that these positions require attendance at all technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals and performances.  An inability to meet this requirement will result in removal from you position, unless given advanced permission by the Drama Director.  Note: Permission may not be given.  Furthermore, Strike attendance is mandatory.  Skipping strike will result in total point loss for that position!

Points will be taken off for poor or unsatisfactory work.

There is a limit of 200 points for this project.
