PLAY PRODUCTION PROJECT DESCRIPTION

In groups of 2 to 6, the students will create an original production concept for a play, which everybody in the group has read.  The play needs to be approved by the instructor.  If a play cannot be agreed upon, The Glass Menagerie will be assigned.  The Group will then put together a ten-minute presentation, which illustrates the production concept, design, structure and planning.  This project will in no way be performed.  THE NEATNESS AND APPEARANCE OF THE PROJECT WILL BE PART OF THE GRADE.

 

The Final Project Should include:

Required

□ 1.  A Concept Description

A one page paper which explains, in detail, the group’s interpretation of the work and the agreed upon concept of the production.  Visual and Aural aids are encouraged.

□ 2.  A Cast List and/or A Mock Rehearsal Schedule

Using either Member’s of the LHS Theatre Department or Famous Actors, the group will present an imaginary cast list for the show.  Then, using either the format in the packet or a calendar program, the group will show and explain their proposed rehearsal schedule for the production.

□ 3.  Set Design Concept Drawings or Collages

Using a combination of sketches, drawings, collages and cutouts, the group will explain their ideas for the Set.  Include floor plans.  Add lighting design sketches for extra credit.

□ 4.  Prop List/Design

The group will present a prop list.  In addition, using a combination of sketches, drawings, collages and cutouts, the group will explain their ideas for specialized props and furniture needed for their production.

□ 5.  Costume List/Concept Drawings or Collages

The group will present a Costume list.  In addition, using a combination of sketches, drawings, collages and cutouts, the group will create costume designs.

□ 6.  Make-up Concept Drawings or Collages

Using a combination of sketches, drawings, collages and cutouts, the group will create make-up designs.

□ 7.  Music/Sound List

The group will present a sound/music list.  Also, examples of music, which either is to be used for the production or demonstrates the mood and /or tone of the production.  Sound samples are encouraged.

□ 8.  Press Release AND Poster Design

A poster for the production and a press release.

 

Note: Since you will be choosing your own groups, you will be responsible for any outcome of the group work.  The presentation is due on the day it is due no matter who in your group is present.  Make sure you exchange phone numbers.  In addition, you should have all your work ready and in the classroom the day before it is due, just in case someone from your group is absent on the due date.
